A thoroughly brilliant, raw modern rock band.

Following success with debut album Cub in 2022, British band Wunderhorse cement their departure from a solo outfit with the arrival of sophomore album Midas in 2024. Arguably already the proprietors of the "next big thing" tag, Midas is a body of work that captures the young band on the brink of new heights, the record evoking all the coarse, organic power of their live shows.

“When we first went into the studio to make this record, the only thing we were sure about is how we wanted it to sound; very imperfect, very live, very raw; no frills. We wanted it to sound like your face is pressed up against the amplifiers, like you've been locked inside the bass drum.”

Jacob Slater, frontman

The new album is an assured statement of artistic might and the result of great tenacity and spirit from the four-piece, full of sonic grit and sweat. The sound here is big, enlivening and intentional. Latest single July is a gorgeously grunge-laden dark ballad with echoes of Nirvana, which is fitting given Midas was recorded at Minnesota’s Pachyderm Studio, the very birthplace of the Seattle trio's In Utero (as well as PJ Harvey’s Rid Of Me).

There's so much excitement around Wunderhorse - both pre-existing and ever-brewing - and Midas is undoubtedly the catalyst to rocket them deservedly into a new class of indie rock supremacy. It's only a matter of time.

Wunderhorse is Jacob Slater, Harry Fowler, Jamie Staples and Peter Woodin.
