Two worlds collide: a multi-sensory spectacle of boundless creative energies.

Oskar Rice (producer/beatmaker) and Adam Jackson (instrumentalist/vocalist) are lavender, a London-based musical project born from a shared fascination of music and a keen understanding of its restorative and collaborative qualities.

"We started using the writing to help us process things in our lives. This record 'we’re having a barn dance' is the culmination of that experience... [it] really feels like it opened our eyes wide to what music can be and do for us personally."

Anxious to avoid the tag of "lead vocalist", Adam's voice blends beautifully with the varied sounds and textures, acting as a further instrument in the duo's dreamy dynamism and melting pot of melodies. With influences ranging from Elliot Smith to Burial, Steve Reich to J. Dilla, lavender's debut album we're having a barn dance emerges an earnest and spirited journey of vivid ambition. The theme of an "ever-evolving sense of home" dances across the 10 tracks, emoting equal parts wonder, longing, conflict and peace. Culminating in the final track (and latest single) harlequin/los días azules, it evokes a euphoric sense of triumph - triumph not only in the completion of the album journey, but also as a band arrived at the frontier of an enriching new era.

Top 5 career moments since forming?

Collaborating with some heroes of ours (Mick Jenkins and Miriam Makeba) on our first EP.

Signing with Night Time Stories. Their comps and Khruangbin records were on heavy rotation in early lavender days (and still are). Full circle feeling putting out our first record with them.

Selling out our lowlight:slowlight release show.

Adam’s grandpa not hating our last single (after a long history of violent disapproval).

Going into the Morley’s by our old studio and being asked if we want ‘the usual’.

5 tips or words of wisdom you'd offer an artist entering the industry in 2025?

Commodifying your art is weird, so make sure to maintain a ritual/routine of creating for the sake of creation - just for yourself.

Enjoy what you do, enjoy the people you do it with.

Focus on the donuts, not the holes.

All will be well.

Stretch. Loading in and out ages your spine.
