Feminist urgency translated into punchy indie-pop.
Girl Group don’t do subtle. The British-Norwegian Liverpool-based five-piece (consisting of members Katya Birkeland, Lily Christlow, Thea Gundersen, Mia Halvorsen and Maria Tollisen) are carving out a space where feminism, friendship and ferocious pop collide. They’re reimagining what it means to be a girl group, challenging the narrative that it’s something invented, branded and distributed by men.
"Our whole thing is we prioritise women in every step of the creative process… and create a beautiful, safe environment which centres unapologetic femininity."
The city of Liverpool, where they still live, is their sixth member. Its legacy of musical defiance and grassroots culture runs through the band, influencing both their sound and their politics.
In the year since releasing their debut EP, Think They’re Looking, Let’s Perform, they have grown ferociously - from supporting the likes of Olivia Dean to drawing the largest BBC Introducing crowd at Reading and Leeds 2025.
Their new EP, Little Sticky Pictures, arriving March 2026 on Boys Boys Boys records, is a concept-driven, emotionally-layered and politically-charged project.
"Rage Song is sort of a series of snarky replies we wished we'd said to men in our lives…but never did because of the pressure we feel to conceal our rage."
