Who

Scottish-hailing electronic DJ Joshua Mannie a.ka. Barry Can't Swim. The producer mainstay returns with Loner, the follow up to his Mercury Prize nominated debut When Will We Land?. The evolving artist has only gained more and more traction since his early days on underground labels, now looked after and releasing on esteemed electronic tastemaker label Ninja Tune. Barry’s live reputation precedes him, a stand-out performance at last year's Glastonbury, three sell-out shows at Brixton Academy and headliner slot at All Points East 2025. Expect to find the energy of club music fully embraced.

What

An album destined for heavy summer rotation, Loner showcases electronic music's most emotive capabilities, influenced by ethereal, nostalgic and head bopping 90's soundscapes (About To Begin) and euphoric build ups (the Kali Uchis sampling Still Riding). Drawing on live instrumentation (drums, piano, strings and synths) to blend with must-have plugins, BCS captures a remarkable musical energy, moving from deep house to jazz. The spoken narrative element sinks into the fabric of the music to build the right amount of introspection alongside any euphoria. The takeaway is warm and welcome escapism.
