White Denim - 12
A gorgeous microcosm of hazy, crunchy rock with sun-kissed psychedelic undertones and extra production touches reignite the fire around the band's distinctive on-the-floor jamming style.
Who
White Denim are frontman James Petralli (vocals, guitar, producer), Steve Terebecki (bass guitar), Michael Hunter (keyboards), Cat Clemons (guitar) and Matt Young (drums). Over various shifting lineups with Petrali always at the helm, White Denim have earned a reputation as one of contemporary rock's most dynamic groups, mastering an authentic fusion of psychedelic textures and 70's rock, with a freewheeling style as if created always in a jam session, through intimate collaboration.
What
The Texan rockers return with a refreshed romantic charm and a set of dynamic new tracks on twelfth full-length album 12. Although the band's output has long derived from home-based recording methods, 12 marks the first White Denim record which frontman James Petrali has engineered and taken the main producer role (recording in the pandemic meant remote collaboration only). Every sound on the album benefits from Petrali's eclectic influences, binging on YouTube clips of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Dennis Bovell dubbing it up on the fly and drawing inspiration from avant-pop pioneers Scritti Politti.
