Who
Peggy Gou's debut album is no introductory statement. The Seoul-born beat-maker has already firmly established herself as a global trailblazer with an enraptured fanbase, keen to devote themselves to following her craft. Aiming to make music which is all about giving its listeners a certain energy, Peggy plays and produces from the heart, inspired by her education in the clubs, growing up a raver in both London and Berlin's prospering club scenes. It's only been an upward trajectory since her raving days, impressing her beloved underground dance scene as the first Korean woman to play in Berghain to now achieving significant mainstream success, topping the charts in multiple countries with 2023 hit single (It Goes Like) Nanana.
What
Dreamlike and dance floor-filling melodies creating emotive clubbing moments, I Hear You curates the lifting sound Peggy Gou has been working on up until this point. Heavily inspired by 90s house anthems, elements of Eurodance energy, piano house and timeless R&B (collaborating with legend Lenny Kravitz on nostalgic dance track I Believe In Love Again). Peppered throughout the album are special moments centring Peggy's voice, whether reciting an edited version of Your Planet Seen From Within by artist Olafur Eliasson on opening track Your Art, or her cool delivery in Korean on Lobster Telephone. Paired with infectious bass lines and well-placed snares, the full project is a showcase of impeccable club production - set to soundtrack any summer dancing hereafter.
