On The Rise: No Windows
A coming-of-age chapter immortalised in affecting sonic collaboration.
No Windows, the Edinburgh-based duo of multi-instrumentalist Morgan Morris and vocalist Verity Slangen, craft a distinct blend of atmospheric indie pop. In 2023, they were honoured with the Sound of Young Scotland Award, recognising their rising talent in the Scottish arts scene. The following year they signed to US independent label Fat Possum off the back of the release of their Fishboy EP, comprising five accomplished songs and a glimpse into the writing sensibilities of the budding DIY folk outfit.
"We operate on an understanding that we’re greater than the sum of our parts and that good things come when that sentiment is embraced, rather than avoided. We make the music that we want to hear, and our guiding light is our taste and instinct."
The forthcoming double EP package is the band’s first time on vinyl, a coupling of Point Nemo - the group's 2024 debut recording for Fat Possum - and new EP The Great Traitor, arriving in May of 2025. Despite their youth, a spin of both these works evidences Morgan and Verity share a satisfyingly intuitive musical connection, and their lyrics authentically capture the emotions and challenges of navigating life's transitions with honesty and compassion. To showcase such grace and emotionally weighted sonic grandeur so early on is exciting indeed.
An evocative and essential window into the artistry of fine indie stars in the making.
